Glassie
Office:
Mahogany; 24" wide x 30" high
x 72" long (credenza); 20" wide x 72" long x 80" high (hutch).
A partner in a DC law firm asked me to make two pieces to match
a Victorian desk that had been his grandfather's. I used burnt
umber glaze and dark wax to approximate the grime and schmutz
of 100 years of greasy fingers. |

Mindy's Desk and Credenza:
Western walnut veneers, eastern
walnut, ash, granite; 30" high x 36" wide x 72" long (desk);
22" wide x 30" high x 72" long (credenza).
Unlike her older brother Steve,
my little sister Mindy has a big-time career. And as I encourage
all people on such career paths, those paths demand a big-time
desk. This desk/credenza set is supposed to inspire awe but
still be a little playful.

Ying-Yang Desks:
Chen chen veneers, padauk veneers
and solids, white oak, mahogany, bending plywood, aluminum;
29" high x 64" round.
I designed this pair of desks
for a husband and wife who shared a small office. The round
shape allows circumnavigation of the desks without hip bruises.
They like checkerboards. |

Haynes' Desks
pomele sapele veneers, mahogany,
ash 72"l x 36"w x 30"h
When my friend Jim made partner
he commissioned these desks. He's now the top lawyer in the
military, so he and the desks are in the Pentagon, at least
until someone else is in the White House. I don't think that's
classified? |
 |
Hudgen's Desk:
mappa burl veneers, maple, ebonized
maple, ebony, brass, leather, gold leaf 72"l x 42"h
x 30"w
This was a really fantastic piece
to build, even though I lost my shirt on it. We designed it
with Sally Gresham, a great interior designer in Washington
DC, who was restoring a townhouse in Georgetown. |
 |
Checkerboard Desk:
bubinga veneers and solids, figured
maple, cocobolo, aluminum 60"l x 32"d x 30"h
A couple took the original to
Seattle; I made a slightly larger one for a very nice physician
from Delaware. I like checkerboards. |

Bill's Desk:
Cherry, figured maple, walnut,
pine; 30" high x 30" wide x 60" long.
In one of his earlier incarnations,
my peripatetic friend Bill owned a water quality business. This
desk, like Bill, is fun and interesting, but also very practical.

Writing Desk:
Padauk, walnut, ash; 30"
wide x 30" high x 60"
long.
A customer in Philadelphia commissioned
this piece when I told him I had some beautiful, wide padauk
planks. The simple form sets off the superb figure of the wood. |
